Grifola frondosa, also known as Maitake, Champignon Dansant, Champignon des Fous Dansants, Dancing Mushroom, Grifola, G. forndosa, Hen of the Woods, King of Mushrooms, Monkey’s Bench, Roi des Champignons, Shelf Fungi, 灰树花, is a mushroom of the Agaricomycetes class.
There has been more and more western style research or clinical trials when it comes to Maitake as more of its beneficial properties are discovered and documented. For example, a phase I & II human trial, conducted in 2009 by Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center, showed G. frondosa could stimulate the immune systems of breast cancer patients. Additionally, other experiments with human cancer patients have shown G. frondosa can stimulate immune system cells, like NK cells.
